How to Use the Dopaze Browser Extension for Maximum Focus
Muhammad Abdullah
The Dopaze browser extension is what turns website blocking from a setting into an enforcement system. Without it, blocking is a suggestion. With it, blocked sites are genuinely inaccessible during focus sessions. Here is how to set it up and use it effectively.
Installation
The extension works on Chrome, Brave, Edge, and all Chromium-based browsers. Download it from your Dopaze dashboard (look for the "Browser Extension" tile in the sidebar) or from the extension page on the website. It is a small download, installs in seconds, and requires no configuration beyond signing in.
How It Works
Once installed and signed in, the extension listens to your Dopaze session state. When you start a focus session from the web app, the extension activates automatically. Every site on your blocklist becomes inaccessible across all tabs. When the session ends, blocking is lifted.
There is no manual toggle. You do not need to remember to turn it on. The extension follows your sessions automatically.
Setting Up Your Blocklist
Your blocklist is managed in the Dopaze web app, either in the focus session setup panel or in Settings. The extension syncs your blocklist in real time. Add a site on the web app, and it is blocked in the extension immediately.
Start with the preset suggestions: YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, Reddit, TikTok, Netflix, Discord, and Facebook. These cover the most common distractions for knowledge workers. You can also add custom domains for sites specific to your habits.
During a Session
While a session is active, the extension popup shows your remaining time, the number of blocked attempts, and how many sites are being enforced. If you try to visit a blocked site, the page will not load. There is no bypass, no "allow for 5 minutes" option, and no way to disable it without ending the session.
Session Stats
The extension tracks how many times you attempted to visit blocked sites during each session. This data flows back into your Dopaze analytics. Over time, you will see these numbers decrease as the habit of reaching for distracting sites weakens.
Tips for Maximum Effectiveness
- Keep the extension pinned in your browser toolbar so you can glance at session status without switching tabs.
- Review your blocked attempt count after each session. If it is consistently high, your blocklist might need expanding.
- Combine the extension with phone-based blocking (put your phone in another room) for a complete distraction-free environment.
